Dragonsteel strives to provide an inclusive and safe environment based around acceptance and community for all attendees, guests, and staff. As such, the following policies are in place to foster such a community. Dragonsteel staff reserve the right to remove any staff member, exhibitor, squire, guest, convention attendee, or anyone else—without refund or recompence—for violation of these policies. Where appropriate, these individuals will be submitted for legal action. To report a suspected violation of any of these policies or for assistance if you are a victim of harassment or a threat, please visit the main Dragonsteel Nexus information booth, notify a Dragonsteel Nexus staff member, or email events@dragonsteel.com.

Anti-Harassment

No form of harassment is allowed at Dragonsteel Nexus. By entering the contracted Dragonsteel Nexus convention space, individuals implicitly and explicitly agree to abide by the Dragonsteel Nexus Anti-Harassment Policy.

Code of Conduct

Respect is paramount. In addition to reiterating the anti-harassment policy, Dragonsteel’s Code of Conduct requires respect and common courtesy in all things at Dragonsteel Nexus. This includes—but is not limited to—appropriate dress, using preferred names and pronouns, obtaining permission to photograph or record others, and otherwise comporting oneself with dignity and decorum appropriate to this type of event. By entering the contracted Dragonsteel Nexus convention space, individuals implicitly and explicitly agree to abide by the Dragonsteel Nexus Code of Conduct.

ADA Protected Rights and Accommodations

Dragonsteel respects the rights of all individuals and strives to provide reasonable accommodations as needed to ensure all fans can enjoy the convention. Please see the article on Accessibility and Accommodations for more information on this topic.

Age Range and Badges

Dragonsteel Nexus is open to fans of all ages. “Babes in arms” and attendees of reasonable age attending with a parent or legal guardian—who do not take up a seat or seat space reserved for ticketed attendees—may attend without a badge. All other attendees are required to have and display an attendance badge at all times.

Cosplay and Weapons

While Dragonsteel Nexus is based around Brandon Sanderson’s worlds and works, cosplay from any fandom is welcome—especially if the author of said fandom is exhibiting or presenting at DSNX! Please remember that this is a family-friendly event held in a public location. Ensure any cosplay meets the below requirements.

  • No explicit content, wording, or graphics
  • No revealing or suggestive clothing
  • Please modify any costume and/or costume weapons as needed to avoid endangering yourself or others—especially props or clothing items of that may be large or long
  • Real weapons (including any Shardblades you may have access to) of any type are not allowed

COVID-19 and Health Protocols

Dragonsteel follows all policies and guidelines issued by the state of Utah, by Salt Lake County (who own and operate the Salt Palace Convention Center), and by Salt Lake City. Additionally, the Salt Palace Convention Center has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR accreditation. GBAC is considered the gold standard for facilities around the country whose number one objective is the health and safety of their employees and attendees. As the cleaning industry's only outbreak prevention, response, and recovery accreditation, GBAC STAR helps organizations establish protocols and procedures, offer expert-led training, and assess a facility's readiness for biorisk situations. The program verifies that the Salt Palace Convention Center implements best practices to prepare for, respond to, and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.

In order to obtain GBAC STAR accreditations, the Salt Palace Convention Center was required to demonstrate compliance with the program's 20 core elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures. You can learn more about GBAC STAR accreditation at www.gbac.org.

Attendees are encouraged to remain home if sick, wash or sanitize hands regularly, and take any other reasonable precautions they personally deem necessary to protect themselves, such as wearing masks or attempting to remain in less-crowded areas of the convention, so long as such precautions do not violate any convention policies or directly affect or change the convention experience of fellow attendees.
